The Bachelor of Arts degree program allows students to develop leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, interpersonal communications, and the ability to learn from their mistakes. A student is able to attend classes during the daytime or at night depending on the university. There is usually a specific schedule set for how many credit hours a student must complete in order to graduate. Students who wish to enroll will have completed course work in the humanities, science, liberal arts, and social sciences before entering the Bachelor of Arts program.
In most programs, students are also required to complete a minimum number of semester hours of community service. This is typically the second year of study. This part is designed to help the student discover their own talents and interests and also helps them develop skills needed for the workforce after graduation. Most community service hours are not necessarily focused on a particular area of community need but may be something as large as building a playground for an inner city neighborhood.
After a year of community service, the student is able to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Depending on the university, a thesis can be submitted towards this degree. The thesis can be written by the student, but he or she is under the supervision of a faculty member. In order to earn this degree, the student must also have taken all necessary prerequisites during his or her Sophomore, Junior or Senior year.
Students are not required to have a high school diploma to enroll. In fact, there are many schools that accept straight admissions without having to submit a transcript. They do, however, prefer candidates who have at least a high school diploma. The Bachelor of Arts degree does have some more requirements than the normal degree. Some of these requirements include having completed course work in psychology, sociology, communications, and any other social science-related area.
Many students opt to go on and earn a Master of Fine Arts or Doctor of Nursing while they are still a Bachelor of Arts student. The student can also pursue specialization by going on and earning a Masters Degree in a specific field within the arts. A typical program would be for the Bachelor of Arts student to take up courses in creative writing, film studies, dance, graphic design, and theater.
Not everyone is satisfied with just having a Bachelor of Arts degree. Students will often also want to earn a Bachelor of Science as well. This degree is usually taken when the student is already a Bachelor of Arts student. It may take longer for the student to earn his or her Bachelor of Science, but it is typically worth the effort. After earning their degrees, the student generally pursues open careers . . . . . . such as becoming a teacher, a journalist, or a researcher. He or she can also go into business as an artist, a writer, a minister, or a business owner.
