In most countries, the Master's in Financial Services is a bachelor's degree that provides students with knowledge on financial management and financial planning.

The Master's in Financial Services degree program helps professionals in the financial industry to achieve a broad understanding and practical experience of the various areas of finance including investment analysis, insurance law and regulation, commercial lending, financial institutions, asset protection and investment banking. In most countries, the Masters in Financial Services is recognized as equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business. It has the same requirements of most bachelor's degrees. Masters in Financial Services are generally granted by private or government colleges and institutions, and often require completion of undergraduate courses at an accredited university. The majority of schools provide the MS in Finance program as part of their MBA programs.

An applicant should expect to take the exam for the Master's in Financial Services on one of two test dates. The first date will be an examination at the institution where he/she received his/her degree, while the second test date will be the final examination. To be eligible for the examination, an applicant must have graduated from an accredited university with a bachelor's degree in business. In some countries, the exam is given at different times, depending on the economic and educational situation of the country.

An applicant may also be eligible to take the MFS with other specific degrees. Students interested in these specialized programs can usually take the examination after having already completed their first master's degree or bachelor's degree. In most countries, the Master's in Finance exam is conducted in person with a tutor, while MBA exams are usually conducted via the Internet. Some countries also conduct the exam over a video conferencing system. In many countries the MS in Finance exam is also taken in a specific career path.

The MBA programs also teach students how to read financial statements and prepare financial reports. Courses in the Masters in Financial Services include basic financial management and analysis, and the theories of financial markets. Masters in Financial Services program also include general business accounting, tax laws, financial marketing, investing and the study of financial products, and the study of international banking and investment options.
