Public health nurse jobs are one of the most in-demand nursing jobs today. These jobs allow for the care of all persons that are a member of the public. Many public health nurses have a master's degree in nursing and specialize in one or a few areas of public health. The number of jobs available in this field are vast, therefore it is important that you choose the best school for your education if you want to become a nurse.

People that work in these nurse jobs are caring for the general health of the public. They work to reduce preventable illnesses and improve the health of the general public through various projects. For example, some nurses focus their time to develop community health plans and coordinating distribution of these plans to reduce disease risks within the community. Other nurses focus on issues that affect the elderly, such as preventing and treating falls. Prevention and treatment of diseases can both save money and slow the growth of illnesses among the elderly population. Public health nurses also are responsible for monitoring the safety of the general public and implementing policies that are needed to keep them safe.

In order to become a health nurse, you will need to complete an associate's degree coursework at a four-year university or college that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs or the National Council for Higher Education. You must also complete a one or two year training program that will prepare you for the exam that will qualify you for the nurse licensure exam. Some nurses begin their careers as social workers or first assistant nurses. These positions tend to be more entry level and require that you begin working immediately. However, there is a lot of job security in this field so those with experience begin at the bottom and work their way up until they have earned the position of their choice.

There are many different types of public health nurse jobs that are available. A good example of this is working as a health aide. These individuals interact with individuals who are confined to a wheelchair or need special medical attention. They may check sufferers armaments or check to see if their oxygen levels are sufficient.

Another example of a nurse job is a case manager. This type of nurse works with patients who are experiencing a health crisis such as dehydration. These professionals are responsible for organizing and managing the needs of the patient while providing assistance with safety concerns. Other jobs available include working as an emergency room nurse. In this role, the nurse would be able to administer IVs, assist ambulance drivers and provide support for other healthcare workers during an event.

An interesting aspect of the health industry is that there are many career options for a nurse such as being a health writer. Health writers write articles about current public health issues and how to deal with the issues facing the general public. You can even find job openings in newspaper reporters where you would be able to write an article about a health issue and send it out for publication. If you enjoy writing, and have a passion for the public's health, a career in the public health arena may be for you.
