The people being referred to as super teachers are, in fact, super visionaries. They have a unique set of vision that enables them to see problems and issues that regular people and teachers simply do not see. The problem is, because they have this kind of vision, it is sometimes not noticed or taken advantage of by others.
It has been noted that there is a real need for super teachers in our country today. Statistics show that one in four children live in poverty. Some of those children live in very poor conditions with little hope of ever being any sort of success in life. This is why many parents are turning to the teaching of gifted children, especially those with an interest in science, mathematics or history. However, it can be said that there is also a very strong need for super teachers in the social sciences.
These super teachers are able to help so many people in so many ways. They use their knowledge to help students who might otherwise fall through life's many cracks. For example, a math teacher can help create mathematical equations for students to understand so they can advance their learning. A science teacher can help create a space program to encourage young people to pursue their passions. A social worker can help those who have been affected by disaster to find strength in the face of adversity.
Perhaps it would not be such a stretch to consider many super teachers as role models. Our nation was built upon the success of these kinds of people. Many of them went on to become leaders in their fields. Some were even considered for the presidential office. If they were not already qualified to hold that position, they were certainly considered for it. Nowadays, it seems like those same people with an interest in education can also end up holding careers in teaching, research and running businesses.
In a world where a large number of people are unemployed, and the number of kids in poverty continues to grow, the idea of helping other people might be an appealing one. That is one reason why super teachers are so important. They show our children how to rise above the circumstances they're facing to achieve certain goals. They can show them that even when a path is blocked, there are still other options available. Teachers can help to create a community environment that is full of possibilities, and thereby provide a . . . . . . spark that gets kids moving again.
Super teachers do not get any special treatment. Their job is just as demanding as any other, but with a much higher level of motivation. This is what helps make them special. And this is what is going to keep them at the front of our kids' minds for years to come.
