There are various universities and colleges in the United States which offer the Ed S degrees. The Ed S degree stands for Doctor of Education (EdD) or Specialist in Teaching Education (stedt). The qualifications generally required by Ed S schools and colleges are a bachelor's degree in a relevant area, plus two years of specific graduate training and teaching experience in a field related to the course of study. A minimum of three years of school is necessary in most cases. A master's degree is also a must for positions in specialized disciplines like education research management.
For those who would like to pursue an education degree but who are from non-U.S. locations, there is an option for admission through the Distance Education and Training (DETC) programs offered by the National Association for the teaching of kindergarten and elementary students (NaftEK) or the National Kindergarten Research Partnership (NKP). In this program, candidates wishing to enroll in Ed S programs located outside the U.S. may request information about admission and eligibility. Documents in English, Spanish or whatever language is needed need to be presented along with a valid passport. This option may be applied in case of an Ed S from a foreign country. The information needs to be provided to the nearest International Student Affairs office of the respective universities or colleges offering the Ed S programs.
