A Bachelor of Computer Science, also known as BS Computer Science, is a program for those who are interested in computer science. The Bachelor of Computer Science program allows students to choose one of two concentrations. The first concentration is in Information Systems, which cover software engineering, network security, and information technology. The second concentration is in Computer Information Systems, which cover computer software design and analysis, computer theory, and computer programming.
Swinburne is a great place to study for a Bachelor of Computer Science because it is a smaller campus with a smaller student body. This means that students have a better chance of getting one-on-one time with professors and will have more opportunities for hands-on learning. There is also less pressure because the student has a smaller course load and less homework. Plus, students can take online courses and many classes through the Swinburne campus libraries. This allows the students to gain the skills needed to get work done faster while having more fun.
There are four main areas of concentration that students can choose from when going through Swinburne's Bachelor of Computer Science program. They include networking, software engineering, information systems, and computer studies. Each of these areas has their own distinct focus with different required texts. The more courses the students take, the deeper they will dive into the particular area of study that they are completing their degree in.
The computer courses offered at Swinburne include web design, website development, web programming, and embedded systems. It doesn't hurt to take a few electives as well when taking this degree, either. Some electives include documentation and usability; digital media; human-computer interactions; educational games; and systems theory. The students will also find some helpful books in the Swinburne library as well, which will help them stay on top of their chosen subject matter.
The Bachelor of Computer Science program at Swinburne is one that will work closely with faculty and have direct contact with Swinburne professors and other students who are part of the computer science major. As such, it will be imperative for students to attend all meetings and tutorials that the professors have scheduled throughout the semester. This helps them to understand what is expected of them and to get an overview of all of the coursework that they will need to complete in order to graduate. The program also offers students plenty of opportunities to meet other people who work in the same field of study who they may come into contact with during their time at Swinburne College.
In order to complete their Bachelor of Computer Science, students will need to take general education courses in their first two years of college. They will then be able to enter into the second year of study focusing only on specific classes that they are interested in. After graduation, the students will be able to sit for the International Computer Science Association exam which gives them a certification.
