The Doctorate in Business Administration, otherwise known as the D.B.A., is an advanced doctoral degree granted on the basis of a rigorous academic history, rigorous coursework, project work, and specialized dissertation. The D.B.A.} is also a post-graduate degree in business administration that is given after completing an undergraduate program at an accredited university.
In general, the Doctorate in Business Administration (D.B.A.) is awarded upon completion of a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education. The candidate must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be registered in one of the approved universities that award master's degrees, bachelor's degrees and doctoral degrees. The D.B.A., however, can also be given by vocational or trade schools that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
The requirements for entering into the Doctorate in Business Administration program vary depending on the university or college that awarded the degree. Some universities and colleges will require students to pass the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the GRE. Others require applicants to have at least a 2.5 GPA on all undergraduate coursework as well as a high school or community college coursework with no failing grade.
To obtain a Doctorate in Business Administration, candidates must complete a master's degree at an accredited university or college and a dissertation. Applicants must also submit a written candidacy, which describes their career goals and the specific areas in which they expect to advance.
When choosing a university, students should ensure that the courses required for a master's degree and the dissertation must be taken in the University that holds the bachelor's degree. In many cases, students will be required to take a number of courses outside the university and participate in internship programs prior to earning the Master's degree. Although this arrangement may not allow students to earn an advanced degree in one year as required by some universities, it can prove to be advantageous to those who plan to complete their doctorate within two years.
Doctorate in Business Administration graduates often go on to serve in positions such as professors in business schools or business administration consulting firms. Those who work in government agencies may also seek positions in private sector consulting firms.
Earning a Doctorate in Business Administration is not the end of the road for those with hopes of advancing their education. In most cases, students must earn a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) before they are able to apply for jobs within the business community. As a DBA holder, students will still be required to complete the requirements of the Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and complete the necessary internship or placement programs in order to qualify for employment with a private firm.
Students who decide to earn their Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) degree from an accredited university or college will . . . . . . begin with their research studies and prepare their dissertation on topics that relate to their field of study. Although the dissertation is not as extensive as a Ph.D. dissertation, students will still need to work on the dissertation, which is completed after the completion of their bachelor's degree and/DBA.
